Back Up Your Information

I know I should know better, but I didn’t do it…

I keep all of my horse records on my hard drive.  Everything that has to do with any horse past or present, and do you think I back my information up?  Yeah, no.  Incredibly irresponsible on my part especially when I have a stack of blank CD’s sitting right next to me.
Friday I got the dreaded blue screen of death and decided against trying to salvage the laptop. I was outgrowing the computer anyway, but that wasn’t the way I wanted it to end!
Fortunately for me, I had a few moments before everything completely disappeared forever and transferred it all over to a thumb drive.  In my defense, I at least have a hard copy of everything but who wants to retype all that information?  Lesson learned.
You may be thinking, what does this have to do with horses?   A lot.  Computers are a great place to keep your horse photos, records, training journals, bookmarks to cool horse sites and anything else you can think of.  Have a back up plan for all of your data.  I am fortunate that I lost nothing except my computer.
So for those of you who don’t back up your horse files like me, please make sure you save everything.  Who wants to lose a picture of a horse you no longer own, training journals, lesson plans, or all your vet and shoeing records?  Not me!
So go back up your stuff now and hopefully you never have to experience “The blue screen of death”.

I had that experience in the last 3 months of my college career… That stupid computer couldn’t have lasted just 3 more months?? I was pretty upset, because I didn’t back my stuff up either, and had puppy pictures on there that I’ll never get back, not to mention a very expensive library of music…

Like yours, mine was a mac… *sigh* and here I am with my new MacBook, but have I learned my lesson? No, because I still haven’t backed anything up, and your post might be the inspiration I need to do it.

    Thanks!

    Puppy pictures! That’s the worst.

I’m glad I could give you some inspiration to back up your info now. It’s so easy not to do it and to expect the computer to be there forever. I have an original ibook too from 1999 and it’s still going strong, go figure.

The one good thing that came out of it for both of us though, a new MacBook. I’m still in awe of it…
