Refuse Fear When Horseback Riding
Thursday, June 18th, 2009 | Horse Training Tips, Horseback Riding Lesson
The best way to make your horse prideful and dangerous is to be afraid of him. Horses know what we are feeling, and when they sense our fear they become nervous. Pride in a horse can end up being dangerous and difficult to fix unless you fix it right away. If your horse is scaring you, put him in training. Perhaps if you are afraid of your horse, he isn’t the right horse for you.
.
If you are afraid when riding any horse, that is something you will need to overcome by working with a professional. I wouldn’t suggest working through it alone. What I would suggest is to build your confidence and refuse fear. That’s right, REFUSE to fear. Visualize yourself being confident and in control instead of visualizing yourself falling off the horse. Keep your attitude positive.
.
Push your horse to work. WORK, work, work that horse. Don’t let him stand around like a big chair, work him and work him hard. That will work the pride out of him and give you the confidence you need. If you are afraid to lope or canter, trot him until he works up a good sweat. Just get out there and DO it. Don’t make excuses for yourself or your horse. Excuses take up energy that you can be using to focus to push your horse to work. Suck it up, I know you can do it!
