If a horse has a stiff neck he will be nervous, spooky, out of balanced, and rushed. The best way to test if your horse has a stiff neck is while mounted gently pull the horse’s head to the side using your rein. If the horse easily gives to the pressure turning his head and dropping it down, he’s not stiff. If the horse fights your advances or lifts his head then he’s stiff. It’s as simple as that.
